Mayoral Headquarters Extension

The project aims to expand Mayoral's Headquarters in Malaga, with new offices located in an existing building featuring a rectangular floor plan and a central double-height area illuminated from above. The client's needs include open workspace areas for each department, individual offices, meeting rooms, a sales room, storage spaces, and a board room.

Our primary goal is to enhance the comfort and well-being of employees, as they spend a significant portion of their day in this space. By achieving sensory harmony throughout the workspace, we can improve the overall user experience. This objective led us to explore various techniques and trends, ultimately inspiring us to focus on Biophilic Design.

Biophilic Design emphasizes the connection between humans and nature to promote psychological and emotional well-being. Incorporating colors, textures, materials, and shapes found in nature, our design fosters a strong relationship with the user and enhances their daily well-being.

As Sir Cary Cooper, Professor of Organizational Psychology and Health at Lancaster University, states in "The Global Impact of Biophilic Design in the Workplace," natural views, light, and bright colors like yellow or green can improve creativity. Additionally, a color palette that evokes a sense of connection with nature can create a healthy atmosphere.

To further emphasize this connection, we've incorporated lyophilized vegetation at strategic points throughout the space. Earthy green and brown tones, natural woods, and white as an accent color envelop the ceilings, walls, and floors.

In terms of space and furniture functionality, the hexagon is the dominant geometry, symbolizing efficiency in natural structures like beehives. Our exclusive workstation, MHEXA, allows for seamless space organization in relation to ceilings and luminaires. This geometry transitions to straight lines in corridors and common areas, where white and sand-colored floors prevail.

The LUXHA luminaire complements the hexagonal ceiling, establishing a spatial reference plane and artificial lighting in the central atrium. To improve acoustics in this double-height area, conditioning panels resembling a bone structure envelop the curved space of the atrium.

Wooden and glass partitions organize individual offices and departments while maintaining consistency with the project's overall design elements. The hexagonal geometry is also integrated into the ceramic coatings of the bathrooms, featuring green tones and granite-like grays.

One challenge was to integrate installations within the hexagonal and linear ceilings without compromising aesthetics. We achieved this by designing exclusive hexagonal diffusers and integrating them into the module, eliminating two smaller concentric hexagons. Similarly, we included integrated diffusers between slats in linear ceilings that blend seamlessly. Another challenge was incorporating fire protection installations into the mesh, ensuring sprinklers were centrally located within hexagons and perfectly aligned to maintain visual continuity.

In conclusion, the space is imbued with a cohesive visual language and a palette of colors and textures that we believe foster a connection between the user and nature. As a result, this connection enhances their overall experience and sense of well-being throughout their daily work.
