Arquitectura Viva publishes in its annual double edition No. 147-148 a selection of the best of Spanish architecture of the year. Among the works selected one can find our report on the Kindergarten Albolote (Grenada) by the architect Alejandro Muñoz Miranda. This work is characterized by strong geometry defined by bleached planes, that reflect light outwards, and the glazed openings that dye the light on its way to fill the interior space with color “and so the children pass on their daily walks joyfull spaces and playful dreamlike atmosphere, that experience constant change.

A kindergarden, capable of hosting 102 children up to three years old, is located in an environment characterized by its own morphology of the town El Chaparral, built in 1950 with simple vernacular architecture typical for urban interventions of the Franco´s dictatorship. The funcional program is organized in an L-shaped plant on three levels in order to absorb the slight slope of the site. On its longest side -facing south, very sunny- one may see the facade that characterizes the entire project through colorfull niches, illuminating the access corridor to the classrooms, and at the same time, open to the playground. The offices, the cafeteria and gym are located on the shorter side of the building.
